DIY iPhone Gloves

We’re still digging out from the blizzard here in NYC. Nevertheless, our hardworking citizens have braved the cold and the mountains of snow to go to work (or to play for those of you lucky to be off this week). I’ve noticed quite a few folks who didn’t receive fancy touchscreen gloves like the Freehands Power Stretch or Tavo Gloves for Christmas, and are desperately ripping off their mittens to answer a call, text or email on their iPhones as they are out and about.

If you can’t find a pair of these specially designed iPhone gloves, fear not! Our tech James gave me a tip on a post from Instructables that shows you how you can make a pair yourself! New DroboPro FS NAS

Data Robotics announced the new DroboPro FS this week. The DroboPro FS has eight drive bays (as opposed to the five drive bays that are in the current Drobo FS) and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports.

The eight drive bays make it possible to have as much as 16TB of available storage (depending on how you configure the device).

The dual Gigabit Ethernet ports can be configured to fail over if one link fails. They can also be set up to use one port for data access on the local area network and the other port to sync backups to another DroboPro FS. This capability will be made available through the Drobo Sync application, which is a free update slated to arrive at the end of the month to the included Drobo Dashboard software.

According to Data Robotics site, the DroboPro FS has a leadtime of 6 to 8 weeks.

iPhone 4 owners! Don’t install the new iOS 4.0.1 update yet! We’ve had 2 reports of the update bricking the iPhone! Other users have been reporting similar issues with the new update.

iPhone OS 4 is arriving sometime this summer! The major new iPhone OS features and improvements are:

Multitasking (only available with iPhone 3GS and third-generation iPod touch 32GB and 64GB models from late 2009)
Folders – organize your apps
iBooks – read books on your iPhone
Enhanced Mail – unified inbox, switch between inboxes more quickly, organize messages by threads, and the ability to open attachments in third-party apps

Other exciting new features and improvements include:

Spell check
Bluetooth keyboard support
User-defined wallpaper
Tap to focus when recording video and a 5x digital zoom for the camera
Playlist creation and nested playlists
Game Center — an official social gaming network for the iPhone

Magic Mouse Updates Available for Leopard and Snow Leopard

For our users who just purchased the latest iMac, which comes with the super sleek Magic Mouse, and for those of you who may have just purchased the Magic Mouse alone, there are software updates available. The only information that Apple has provided about the updates is that you should install the software to “take advantage of your Magic Mouse special features.”

Envelope MacBook Sleeve

I’ve been looking for a basic (but not unattractive) laptop cover to protect my MacBook Pro, but everything that I’ve found has a bulky, clunky design. I finally found exactly what I’ve been looking for in this envelope laptop sleeve by designer Christiane Hoegner.

The envelope has lightweight shock-absorbing high-density foam packaged in colorful fabric. Simple, elegant and the right size for my MacBook and my bag.

I’ve seen a lot of really beautiful etchings on MacBook Pros throughout the years, but have never been able to to commit to getting one done for my own MacBook. I found the perfect solution in these lovely laptop decals by Michelle Christina. The Venus Flytrap Decal is my favorite.
