Apple TV users: Don’t Forget to Update!

Thursday, December 12th, 2013

Yesterday Apple added a bunch of new channels to the Apple TV, including a Watch ABC channel to allow subscribers to certain cable services to watch content from their local ABC affiliate through Apple TV. Other new channels include the financial channel Bloomberg, the streaming movie and television show channel Crackle, and the Korean channel KORTV.

To update your Apple TV to the current software version (via Apple’s website):

Select Settings > General > Update Software.

Apple TV checks for an available update; if one is available, a download message should appear.

Click Download Now to start the download process.

Important: Do not disconnect your Apple TV during the update process. The Apple TV status light may flash slowly during the update and restart process; this is expected behavior.

Note: On an Apple TV (1st generation) with software version 1.x: When the update has finished downloading, an Update Now message should appear. To start the update process, click Update Now.

Additional Information

During the update process, your Apple TV may restart, then display the Apple logo and status bar once or twice. Please do not disconnect your Apple TV from power during the update process.
